Université de Liège: Master in Sociology, Focus on Migration and Ethnic Studies

The Master in Sociology, Focus on Migration and Ethnic Studies at the University of Liège, Belgium, is a two-years master programme entirely taught in English. The aim of this master is to provide students with a critical view of society and a focus on phenomena linked to migration. In this regard, the master offers an innovative multidisciplinary approach taking into account political, sociological, legal and economic aspects of migration. Moreover, students will benefit from courses that impart theoretical, practical and methodological skills in social sciences and more specifically related to migratory processes.

Specialization

The unique feature of this MA programme is the multidisciplinary approach promoted by academic experts. Students will be trained in the study of the political, sociological and economic aspects of migration. Each of these aspects will be taught by experts and reputable professionals in these fields. Tentative course program for the semesters 3 and 4

Incoming EuMIGS students will have to choose courses with a combined total of 60 ECTS, for example:

  • Geopolitics of the Western Mediterranean (6 ECTS)
  • Arts, Ethnicity and Migration (6 ECTS)
  • Citizenship and Political Participation of Minorities (6 ECTS)
  • Sociology of Racism (6 ECTS)
  • Migration and Integration Practice and Policies (6 ECTS)
  • Master thesis (30 ECTS)

Fees and similar

No tuition fees are charged for incoming EuMIGS double degree students, whether EU or non-EU students.

Language requirements

The language of instruction is English. We recommend B1 level.

    • 1st semester (September-January) or full academic year (September-June): from March 1 to May 31
    • 2nd semester (February-June): from October 1 to November 15

Admission documents will be sent out in late May/ early June for the 1st semester and full academic year, and in November for the 2nd semester.
